When installing on 64-bit Windows environments, common files needed to run MicroStrategy are placed in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\MicroStrategy directory by default. When installing on UNIX and Linux environments, common files needed to run MicroStrategy are placed in the Home Directory and Install Directory chosen during installation. For additional information on the MicroStrategy directory structure on UNIX and Linux environments, refer to the Installation and Configuration Guide. Common Files size requirements on Windows environments MicroStrategy installs a set of common files that are shared when installing multiple MicroStrategy products on the same machine. With a typical installation setup type, these files are installed on the C: drive. In addition to the storage requirements listed in the System Requirements pages for each MicroStrategy product, you should estimate an additional 2 GB of storage space for the common files that are shared amongst all products. While this estimate is conservatively high, planning for this additional space helps to ensure a successful installation on Windows environments. Common Files size requirements on UNIX environments The storage recommendations listed in the System Requirements pages for each MicroStrategy product provide the storage recommendations for the MicroStrategy products if they are installed individually on separate machines. The table below lists a conservative estimate of the total file size if you install all MicroStrategy products on the same machine, which can then share a set of common files:
MicroStrategy Runtime Environment The MicroStrategy Runtime Environment is a free package of MicroStrategy configuration files that can be used to develop custom applications. The functionality of this deliverable is limited, and as an alternative, MicroStrategy encourages the use of the MicroStrategy Web SDK to develop full-featured custom applications. If you do choose to install the MicroStrategy Runtime Environment, be aware that it can only be installed on machines that do not have any MicroStrategy products installed. Upgrading MicroStrategy Who should upgrade? Customers who want to use the MicroStrategy features introduced in this release and customers who need fixes made in this release for MicroStrategy products should upgrade:
For a list of upgrade feature impacts and an upgrade map to track which version(s) you are moving from among different MicroStrategy products, see the Upgrade Guide. Preparing for and performing the upgrade Before upgrading, refer to the Upgrade Guide for important information about preparing for the upgrade, the order in which to upgrade products, and tasks to perform after upgrading. When upgrading a MicroStrategy system to a newer version, it is likely that products will be upgraded across several machines. The Upgrade Guide includes best practices and instructions to ensure that your system upgrade adheres to the interoperability rules that MicroStrategy has certified and listed in the Compatibility and Interoperability page. Uninstalling MicroStrategy For details about uninstalling MicroStrategy, refer to the Adding or Removing MicroStrategy Components chapter of the Installation and Configuration Guide. |
