Database and ODBC configurations for MicroStrategy metadata, warehouse, statistics database, and MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server repositories

The tables below list whether or not a configuration is one of the following:

• Certified configurations were tested at MicroStrategy with MicroStrategy products.
• Supported configurations include configurations tested at customer or partner sites, older versions of RDBMSs that were certified for previous releases of MicroStrategy software, and other combinations that may not have been tested in the exact combination listed.
• Status is listed with the following abbreviations:
  • WH: Data warehouse.
  • MD: Metadata repository. MD also signifies certification or support for History List repositories, except where explicitly noted otherwise.
    
  • ST: Statistics repository.
  • NCS: MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server.
• Configurations listed as Not Tested were not tested at MicroStrategy, but may work acceptably.
• Configurations listed as Not Supported are not supported by MicroStrategy.

Note: Not all ODBC vendors provide 64-bit drivers. To have an encompassing standard for connectivity to all databases, the current requirement for ODBC drivers is that they should be 32-bit for Windows, AIX, Solaris, and Linux, while all ODBC drivers for HP-UX are 64-bit.

Virtualization

The MicroStrategy Product Suite can be integrated with Citrix, Windows Terminal Services, and VMWare. MicroStrategy products are expected to function properly in these virtual environments and no major issues are known at this time.

MicroStrategy Technical Support aids in the deployment of MicroStrategy's platform with these components. If an issue occurs with MicroStrategy software in a virtual environment, the customer may log a case with MicroStrategy Technical Support for their system. As with any third-party software, MicroStrategy requires that the customer properly configure the software before reporting the issue to MicroStrategy. If the issue is determined to be a MicroStrategy issue, MicroStrategy Technical Support will recommend appropriate action items. In the event that MicroStrategy Technical Support determines that the problem is not caused by MicroStrategy, then the customer will be asked to contact the appropriate vendor and log a support case with the vendor to resolve the issue. In instances where it is unclear if an issue is caused by MicroStrategy, MicroStrategy Technical Support may request customers to reproduce the problem outside the virtual environment.

Customers who wish to proceed with using these applications should ensure that the application is deployed on a configuration that is listed as supported or certified in the "Certified and Supported Configurations" sections for each MicroStrategy product within these MicroStrategy Product Readme and Release Notes. The customer must also use a virtual environment, including software, hardware stacks, and so on, that is supported by its vendor.

Additionally, if MicroStrategy software is used within a virtual environment, its usage is subjected to the same licensing terms as usage on actual physical machines. For licensing purposes, the MicroStrategy software will only count the number of physical processors and check the clock-speed of the physical processors on the machine, in a virtual environment. MicroStrategy software does not recognize sharing of processors or clock-speed across the different virtual environments that reside on the same physical machine.
